As a nutrition coach I get a lot of questions regarding the types of foods people should eat. I always say the same thing… “What do you want to eat?” My gift is the ability to calculate how many calories you burn, what that actually means in food and depending on your goal we just tailor you a Perfect Portion. OK sure that sound great but what about Chocolate? What about alcohol? There is no way those things can fit into healthy diet… Is There? Well the answer may surprise you. Dark chocolate with coca content above 80% is actually a super food. A super food is a term for a food with health benefits. Super foods are dense in nutrients and contain anti oxidants. let’s take a look at what is in it.

250 Calories

Quantity Of Lindt Dark Chocolate

serving, 4 squares (1.4 oz)

Serving

Fat 19 g Carbs 17 g Fiber 3 g Protein 3 g

For a female weighing roughly 150 Lbs. she would be at her fat limit at 2 squares so in a 3 hour window 2 squares is within guidelines. As for alcohol it really does differ from drink to drink. Beer is not a good fit when someone is trying to reach a goal. Beer is very dense in carbohydrates hens the dreaded beer belly. Spirits on the other hand have around 60 calories per oz so mixed with a zero calorie drink option this choice may not throw you too far off track. While spirits usually don’t have enough carbs, protein and fat to worry about. However lets further break down the macro nutrients.

1g of carbs= 4 cal.

1g of protein = 4 cal.

1g fat= 9 cal.

1g alcohol 12 calories.

its actually the densest one and adding fruit juice can add up very quickly in the carbs. There is 3 hours of energy in a cup of most juice. Think if it like this. We have a very clear target to lose 15 Lbs… Your goal is to consistently burn 500–1000 per day with your Delicious Perfectly Portioned Menu. It’s just a matter of time before you reach your goal. So less is more when it comes to drinking. As for “Bad Foods” at the end of the day all carbohydrates turn into sugar. All protein turns into tiny amino acids and fat transports our vitamin, minerals and makes up every cell way in our body. We nee all 3 of these we just need it in the proper ratio. That’s why I offer personalized meal plans to help you bridge the gap. All food can be placed somewhere. That’s my whole mentality.

PS. Tomorrows post will go into more depth on anti oxidants and how we can use them for natural anti aging.
